The highly elastic couplings of the SET type are characterized by their ability to accommodate large, sudden increases in load beyond the rated transmitted torque while simultaneously protecting the entire drive system.
In case of a permanent blockage of the driven machine while the engine is running, there is an interruption of the elastic segment, which serves as a safety feature. Increased elasticity of the SET-type couplings was achieved by using two elastic elements: an insert and a segment.
The hub mounted on the gearbox shaft is fastened with the "elastic segment" and the claw disc, which transfers torque to the hub mounted on the motor shaft through an "elastic insert." The elastic insert is free in the system, making the coupling detachable at this point, which is of utmost importance during installation, as no solutions for fastening made during factory assembly are required.
The system can be used in an environment with a pH range of 5 ÷ 12 in a temperature range of -40 °C to +100 °C. Chemical resistance includes common solvents, gasoline, oils and fats, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, and saltwater.
The main application of high-elasticity SET-type couplings is to connect the electric motor to the gearbox shaft in drives for belt and scraper conveyors, compressors, pumps, fans, and other machinery and equipment.
